Most people have a favorite style of home. What’s yours?

Mine is a cottage! I think I want it to look old fashioned, but I want it to be new because I want it to be low maintenance. I also have a list with about 28 mist-haves thus far.

But tonight I saw an article called New Criteria for Finding The Perfect Cottage by PJ Wade. These questions are important for anyone who is picking their location first.

Each family’s list of wants and needs are based on their own experiences. Mine are based on feel and convenience.

Visual:

  • Cottage small feel outside, but with plenty of space inside
  • Love seats and cafe tables in the dining room
  • Girly wallpaper – an absolute no-no today! But I want it anyway (for now).

Smell:

  • A bit musty with bookshelf lined walls filled with classics!
  • And the smell of cookies – soft-baked of course

Touch:

  • What I have chosen to call my “decompression chamber” – the little room between outside and inside to buffer the heat and the cold
  • Wood stove
  • Mud room for snowy or rainy days
  • Windows positioned for optimal breeze flow so I don’t have to use the air conditioner when it’s nice out and stuffy inside

Sound:

  • Theatre room in the basement to keep the hubby happy!
  • Cute door knocker for the front door

Taste:

  • Square foot gardening
  • Fruits and veggies I can easily grow to help the budget

My point for sharing a few of my ideas is that yes, a house can be an investment, but a home should be an extension of you! I won’t get everything I want in my dream home, but I hope to keep my personality and use the senses to the fullest to make it feel like my home!
