SmartPhones And Households

I love my iPhone.  Its become a resource that is far beyond a simple messaging device.  The SmartPhone has become a functioning part of my lifestyle and helps me complete tasks more easily and free my mind to work on other things.  The SmartPhone has also become a great tool to manage my home life and get things done. I wanted to create a list of some of my favorite apps.  The list isn’t exhaustive so feel free to add your own in the comments section!

These apps are free apps that don’t require local hubs or devices to run.  In the near future, we’ll post some of our favorite smarthome devices and apps.

TapMeasure

TapMeasure is an augmented reality app that lets you take measurements from a variety of angles for a surface. It’s unique in that it’s a spatial measurement device with the ability to build 3d models.  It has quick measurements for more basic tasks and lets you share your measurements with others using a URL.

Housecraft

Housecraft is also a pretty kickass app and like TapMeasure it uses augmented reality to scan your living space.  Once scanned, you can then select furniture pieces to see if they’ll fit in your home and how that furniture will tie in with the rest of the room.

BrightNest

BrightNest is awesome! Homeownership requires some ongoing maintenance and running a healthy home is the most cost-effective way to avoid costly repairs down the road.  BrightNest lets you keep a log of any repairs, updates or enhancements you choose to give your home. It also has maintenance schedules and easy how-to guides on how to clean and repair most anything.

Homestyler

Homestyler is cool and helps you with decorating and updating your home.  The app is full of great ideas and lets you see what a room will look like with different color walls, light fixtures, flooring or other furniture.  You just snap a pic and start your journey to a new home!

Encircle

Encircle helps document your belongings for insurance reasons.  The app allows you to take a few pictures of each room and then add all of the devices, gadgets, appliances and other things that you may claim in case of a disaster.  The devices can be searched by manufacturer for more detailed claims.

iScape

Spring is coming and it’s time to update the yard, but how do you know if that plan you saw on HGTV will look good in your yard?  Enter iScape.  This app lets you take a picture of your yard and then add pictures of various bushes, trees, and other yard updates so that you get a good idea of what your plan would look like and what will best fit your yard.

iHandy Level

The iPhone has a great internal level, using iHandy Level you can grab it to ensure that the things around your house are level.

HomeDepot Project Color

The HomeDepot and Lowes mobile apps are pretty good and help you get around the store, but I wanted to spotlight another app by HomeDepot.  The HomeDepot Project Color app lets you take a photo of a room and test various colors or stains on the appropriate surfaces. The app also allows you to take photos of an already painted surface and tell you the color match numbers to touch up or copy the color of a certain wall.

HomeSelfe

Homeselfe  is a great app for listing all of your home appliances and smarthome devices and then getting an energy efficiency report. The app prompts you with some basic questions and then gives you a final report.  You can also get recommendations for other cost savings changes you can make around the house.

Yonomi

Ok… so I wrote earlier that we’d do a different post on smarthome devices, but this is an app and it’s awesome.  Yonomi lets you connect many of your smart home devices to create automated routines that will function with certain triggers.  It’s stupid simple to setup and has been running perfectly to help make my home more automated.
